The percentage of doctor visits for claw symptoms last week, 4.4%, is the highest figure for this time of year since 1998, the first season since which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plan to monitor the prevalence of influenza.

Although this season has not been as extreme as some of the last few years, it has been a long one. It is still prevalent in 42 states, although it is down from 47 states and Puerto Rico last week, says the CDC.
