Ford may be getting rid of most of its cars in the United States, but at least the new Escape looks more like it ever before. Another reason to get excited about the fourth generation of Blue Oval's compact crossover is the possibility of an ST version, as the larger Edge is available in a performance-oriented specification. It would be logical for the Escape to get a faster version, and we will not be too surprised that it looks like this rendering.
Considering an Escape ST is not that difficult, as Ford has already revealed the ST-Line model in Europe, where the CUV is known as Kuga. The images below illustrate the sport model that, on the Old Continent, will be available with the same engines as other members of the Kuga family.
If Ford decides to build an Escape and / or Kuga with the suffix ST, the fast crossover could use the same engine as the recently revealed Focus ST. The non-America heated hatch uses a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost gasoline engine producing 276 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque (420 Newton meters). A potential Kuga ST could also be offered with a 2.0 liter EcoBlue diesel engine developing 187 hp and 400 Nm, as shown in Focus ST.
Since we're talking about a crossover, Ford might decide to give it a standard all-wheel drive configuration, which, in turn, would deliver acceleration in terms of improved power transfer to the wheels. The hot front-drive hatch requires less than six seconds to reach 100 km / h (100 km / h), and a possible Kuga / Escape ST equipped with all-wheel drive could be in the same stadium.
Of course, it is too early to say if Ford is considering creating another model with the ST logo, but as the brand is more interested in high-performance models than ever, it would be a logical way to diversify the SUV portfolio. The new Focus ST does not arrive in North America, so an Escape ST would be the best option.
