In the United States, it's Presidents' Day, which means you can have a day off depending on your work. Here's another thing that will not happen in the US: the all-new Ford Focus ST, which is not intended to follow us in the wake of Ford's decision to remove its entire lineup of cars and sedans.
It's a shame because the latest version of Ford's ultra-flatbed sedan, the daily choice between the small but rowdy Fiesta ST, and the more expensive and sharper Focus RS, now looks better than ever and certainly more powerful.
This is the fastest version of the all-new Ford Focus, a car we found very bright when we had the chance to drive it to the UK.
In ST version, the car receives a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, identical to the basic engine of the EcoBoost Mustang and Focus RS, and replaces the 2.0-liter engine of the old car, a power rated 276 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It is a nice bump compared to the 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of the previous Focus ST, and another that brings it even closer to the specifications of the RS.
It remains front-wheel drive and can be obtained with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. A break version is also coming soon.
I would say it looks pretty neat too. The new Focus is a more beautiful and striking car than it has ever been, and the cockpit seems to be a nice improvement over the fantastic plastic cab of the last. And like the old Focus ST on non-US markets, it also offers a diesel option, a 2.0-liter turbo oil burner with 187 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of power.
Other technical enhancements include Electronic Continuous Damping and Electronic Limited Slip Differential, Turbocharging, Speed Compensation, Dedicated Sport and Track modes, Adaptive Cruise Control, a head-up display and a steering assistance system having an emergency encounter with a stopped car or other stationary object.
It all seems extremely amusing and I'm still pretty jealous of our friends outside of the United States who will be able to drive him. I guess we have the Edge ST? Is it a consolation prize? Go with no.
