After receiving criticism for expressing hope that Hurricane Dorian damages one of President Trump's Florida properties, former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell apologized Friday and suppressed the tweet.
In the initial message, Campbell said on Thursday: "I'm looking for a direct hit for the seaside resort of Mar a Lago", Trump's favorite holiday destination and family. The president has also welcomed the world leaders there.
Forecasters expect Hurricane Dorian to hit Florida on Labor Day weekend as a "major" category 4 storm. Mar-a-Lago, located in Palm Beach , seems to be on his trajectory.
A day later, Campbell deleted the tweet and apologized. "I deleted my tweet about Hurricane & Mar a Lago and I sincerely apologize for everything he's offended – it was supposed to be a sarcasm." Campbell was not the only one among Twitter users to hope that Hurricane hurts Trump in one way or another, others accusing Trump of having canceled his trip to Poland out of fear for the welfare of Mar-a-Lago. Trump instead sends Vice President Mike Pence in his place.
