The future of the Killzone franchise on PS5 and future Sony consoles appears to be virtually nonexistent as the console maker shut down Killzone.com, removing features available in some Killzone games.

When you visit Killzone.com, you receive a message from Guerrilla Games stating that the website has now been closed and users will now be redirected to PlayStation.com. It comes after Sony removed any reference to the first-person shooter franchise from its PlayStation Studios website.

As for the effect, this has on games, multiplayer modes, player stats and leaderboard will still work in Killzone: Shadow Fall and Killzone Mercenary. But those who wish to create and manage clans in Killzone Shadow Fall will no longer be able to do so.

The full website statement can be found below:

Dear visitor of Killzone.com,

The official KILLZONE franchise website has retired. Going forward, visitors to Killzone.com will be directed to PlayStation.com.

While this change does not affect online multiplayer modes, player stats, or leaderboard data for KILLZONE MERCENARY and KILLZONE SHADOW FALL, it is no longer possible to create or manage clans in KILLZONE SHADOW FALL. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you to the many fans and visitors to Killzone.com over the years for their enthusiasm and support.

Regards,

Guerrilla

While most of the features of the Killzone games still work, this is another sign that Sony has plans to firmly quit Killzone in the past. The future of the franchise looks bleak as Guerrilla will focus on developing the Horizon franchise and its upcoming Horizon Forbidden West entry.

Fans have speculated that this post reads like a farewell and that they wouldn’t be surprised if the servers for both of these games were shut down in the next few years. And, with the way Sony has dismissed Killzone, we wouldn’t be surprised if that did hold true.

Once we know more about Sony’s plans for the future of Killzone, we’ll be sure to update you.
