The Galaxy Fold 2 from Samsung could have a square design with flapper

When the Samsung Galaxy Fold landed in the hands of reviewers earlier this year, they quickly detected and reported a wide range of reliability issues and problems, resulting in a last-minute delay for the official launch. This break is now over five months old, and the final release date for the retail trade has not been confirmed yet.

Despite this, we are already starting to hear rumors of a possible successor to Fold, with a series of patents potentially discovering the design of a future Samsung foldable device, and a new report today from Bloomberg this seems to confirm one of these conceptions.

Specifically, the report claims that Samsung's next collapsible Galaxy device (tentatively titled the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2) will be folded in half vertically rather than horizontally, with a 6.7-inch screen protected inside. (style flapper), leaving one This unit is two times smaller and considerably more compact.

The Bloomberg article gives more weight to the newly discovered patent (shown above) that describes a horizontal fold on the device, as well as an external screen on half of the outside – once folded shell-shaped, the other half primary camera network.

While the handset in this patent would not look exactly like a square when folded, the external display itself is much closer to a one-to-one format report than conventional smartphone displays.

A particularly technical handkerchief

Among the other details that Bloomberg has collected from "people familiar with product development" is an early 2020 announcement, which will largely depend on the performance of the first Galaxy Fold.

The report also states that Samsung wants to make the Galaxy Fold 2 thinner and more affordable than its predecessor. It will also apparently include a perforating selfie camera (similar to the existing Galaxy Note 10 range) and a dual camera back screen (which is somewhat at odds with the aforementioned patent).

There is no doubt that such advanced technologies are generally considered top quality items, but Bloomberg says the Fold 2 is made in collaboration with the American clothing designer Thom Browne and targets the "most interested in fashion, status, and luxury than the technical specifications of a device ".

Of Existing and future foldable smartphone models, this vertical hull approach is getting closer to a single currently-popular design – the Motorola Razr V4, which is supposed to be a collapsible reboot of the iconic hull that was launched in 2004.

At this point, none of the details of the Galaxy Fold 2 is concrete – in fact, it is possible that we see details on several handsets – and it is unlikely that we would get an official confirmation of the successor of the Fold before that. the unit of origin is at least reached. the market.
