The Google Assistant finally arrives on Sonos One

18 months after promising this feature, Sonos will finally bring Google Assistant compatibility to its entry-level smart speakers.

"Thanks to a software upgrade, Sonos One and Beam will support the Google wizard in the US, with more markets in the coming months," notes a letter from Sonos to investors. The upgrade arrives next week.

Sonos launched his Sonos One based on Alexa late 2017. At the time, he had promised to bring Google Assistant support by the end of 2018 via a software upgrade. . But in November, the company delayed this capacity without really explaining why. However, an update of Sonos One last March, with more powerful integrators and Bluetooth LE features, indicated that the original version of the smart speaker could not handle the processing power needed to run Google Assistant effectively.

Although Sonos high-end speakers will not benefit from digital assistance, it is likely that the company will review these products over time, which will add support. But the newly released Sonos Beam TV Soundbar will also be upgraded to support Google Assistant.
