New and improved response styles are being deployed for Google Assistant, including more visual and interactive elements. However, the update includes a change that is not an improvement: Depending on your query, the wizard may offer ads similar to the ones you see in normal Google searches.
The more feature-rich wizard-related ad message discussed this topic, indicating that the new results "could include existing ads you would see in Search Today." And of course, some answers, like results for nearby hotels, now return ads for sites like site booking.
Google seemed to have tested this approach in February, when at least one user had seen sponsored results in his assistant responses. When asked about this, Google replied no: "We are always testing new ways to improve the experience on phones, but we have nothing special to announce yet." More ads do not necessarily seem to be an improvement of the experience, but it is subjective. You can tell Google how you feel by pressing the photo of your profile in the wizard app and then clicking Send comments.
