Google will unveil the details of its unannounced game project at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, according to an invitation sent Tuesday by the technology giant. The company will hold a conference on March 19 at 10 am Pacific Time, during which time it should reveal the details of a new video game business.

Official details are rare. Google's invitation included only the slogan "Gather Around" and an image of what appeared to be a dark hallway leading to a lighted exit.

According to information in Google, "Google was working on a subscription-based streaming service that could run on Google Chromecast or possibly on a Google console." This project would be called "Yeti." A Kotaku follow-up report indicated that that Google was looking for a streaming service associated with hardware and an "aggressive" effort to recruit or attract game developers to its platform.

In October 2018, Google unveiled Project Stream, a technology that allowed streaming of high-quality games through the company's Chrome browser. Google has partnered with the Ubisoft publisher to create Assassin's Creed Odyssey playable on the internet. We rated Project Stream's performance as "surprisingly good" in our hands-on tests with the beta.

GDC 2019 will run from March 18 to 22.
