New house, same terror.

Netflix is racing for the second season of The Haunting of Hill House. And why not? The first season was our new favorite show of 2018.

However, expect a very different kind of show in Season 2. From the revised title to the new intriguing horror novel, here's all we know about the Haunting of Hill House's follow-up Netflix.

Title change

The new season will not be called The Haunting of Hill House. Netflix revealed that the show would actually be a series of anthologies, each season featuring a different variant of the title "The Haunting …" and focusing on a different group of characters. This approach seems to be similar to the FX management of American Horror Story.

Season 2 will be called The Haunting of Bly Manor. Expect a completely different cast of characters and a whole new scenario this time around. Although it is always possible that there are subtle historical links between the two seasons, the story of the Crain family seems to be over.

The source material

While The Haunting of Hill House was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by author Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Bly Manor will inspire a completely different horror novel. The new season will adapt the Henry James novel of 1898, The Turn of the Screw.

The screw tour is widely regarded as one of the best and most influential horror novels ever written. The story is told by an anonymous protagonist, who tells the details of a manuscript written by a housekeeper. This manuscript chronicles the experiences of the housekeeper with two children at Bly Manor and her slow realization that places can be haunted. The Turn of the Screw has been adapted to film, stage and television many times, including The Innocents of 1961.

If you want to see The Haunting of Hill House, expect The Haunting of Bly Manor to make significant changes to the source material. On the one hand, the novel is not necessarily dense enough to occupy an entire television season without major additions. We assume that these changes will include the adaptation of the decor to the modern era, as was the case with The Haunting of Hill House. Although it is possible that the new season is a piece of the era.

The casting and the crew

Creator and director Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy will again be the spearheads of The Haunting of Bly Manor. The duo recently signed a global deal with Netflix. Their presence should ensure that the new season remains similar to the first, even if the casting and the settings change.

Regarding the casting, no announcement has been made to date. It is unclear if any of the cast members of The Haunting of Hill House will resume their roles or if Bly Manor will present a brand new cast. If the series follows the example of American Horror Story, we might even see some key players come back in completely different roles.

Release date

Do not expect the new season to reach Netflix in time for Halloween this year. The release of Haunting of Bly Manor is currently scheduled for 2020, suggesting that the new season is still in its infancy. Given Netflix 'aversion to revealing concrete publication dates in advance, we may not have a clear timetable until next year.
