Tom Bergeron, longtime host of "Dancing With the Stars", was disappointed with this season's cast.
He went on social media Wednesday to publish a long statement in which he explained what "celebrities" would be in season 28 of the reality show series, including how Sean Spicer, a former release of President Donald Trump at the White House, is a competitor.
Bergeron wrote how he hoped the new season would "provide a happy respite from our grueling political climate and be free of inevitably conflicting reservations of ANY party affiliation".

He explained how he met the new executive producer of "DWTS" (Andrew Llinares) to share his feelings. He then left his lunch "convinced that we were in agreement".
"Later (and rather obviously)," wrote Bergeron, "a decision was made for, as we often say in Hollywood," going in a different direction. "
"We can all agree not to agree, as we do now, but it's ultimately their call," he continued. "I will let them answer any questions about these decisions."

Bergeron then explained his feelings on Sirius XM's Entertainment Weekly Live.
"Dance at its best is an oasis, far from any division and everything we are struggling with right now," he said. "So it's a call they made and my job as a host, to the best of my abilities, is to be in Switzerland for two hours a week.
"For the remaining 166 hours a week, I'm pretty clear about my political position," added Bergeron.

Bill Prader, executive producer of "The Big Bang Theory", also expressed his disappointment with Spicer.
He tweeted: "Sean Spicer has repeatedly lied to the American people and literally defended Hitler. @ABC Network: "Yes, but can it fox trot? Give to see!
Spicer spoke to Twitter to express his enthusiasm about his participation in the show. "It's time to have fun, we're excited to join a great cast and show @DancingABC."
This is not the first time Spicer appears on TV with ruffled feathers. At the 2017 Emmy Awards, hosted by Stephen Colbert, Spicer appeared on stage with a podium on wheels and delivered a joke.
"This will be the most public to witness an Emmys, period – both in person and around the world," Spicer said.
