The huge leak of Pixel 4 tells us everything we need to know about the best feature of the phone – BGR

The Pixel 4 press event was not even announced, yet one person sells phones in Asia. This is how we saw the upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL handsets in a series of practical exams from Vietnam and Thailand this week, videos that confirmed many of the recent leaks.

Of course, it was not as if the Pixel 4 was a huge secret before, Google having officially unveiled all the signature features of the phone, including the main camera configuration, 3D face recognition and radar gestures . Among them, the camera is without a doubt the most important feature of Pixel 4. A huge leak has just confirmed some of the new features incorporated by Google into the Pixel 4 cameras, as well as the expected user interface changes for the application.

XDA developers was able to inspect the new Google Camera 7.0 app preloaded on the Pixel 4 test units in Asia and confirmed some of the findings of previous versions of the application.

Depending on the code, the following features will all be available on Pixel 4:

  • Google Pixel 4 supports audio zoom
  • Google Pixel 4 supports deep data backup using the new Dynamic Depth Format (DDF)
  • The Pixel 4 is equipped with a telephoto lens (a conclusion that has been corroborated many times).
  • The devices support longer exposure times in Night Sight.
  • The devices support the HDRNet algorithm.
  • Google Lens's suggestions can detect and recommend document scanning (there is indeed a chain for a new "scan document" suggestion chip.)

I will add that the DDF format seems to confirm that the rear camera module of Pixel 4 contains a third flight time sensor (ToF), in addition to the main and telephoto objectives.

The report also states that Pixel 4 will support Motion Mode, which allows you to take pictures of moving subjects while making the background blurry. Night Sight, meanwhile, will be faster than before, thanks to the support of the zero-shutter shift and the support of astrophotography, as revealed by a video ad that was the subject of 'a leak. The phone will apparently use the graphics processor of its phone to "accelerate the segmentation of the sky, then optimize the image by 'finding' the stars and illuminating them."

Other features include Live HDR, HDRNet and Mesh Warping, the latter apparently confirming that the camera's selfie camera will be wide angle. This is because Mesh Warping is used to correct the distortions of wide angle cameras. The code also lists other camera features for the Pixel 4, including support for an AR measurement app, a Rewind mode and a unknown mode "Rocky".

XDA developers has also loaded the Google Camera 7.0 application on a Pixel 2 in order to inspect it, discovering various changes:

For example, the application will provide pointers to photographers suggesting, where appropriate, the Night Portrait or Portrait Mode, although the "Camera Coaching" feature is optional. Time Lapse mode will also receive suggestions based on what you want to shoot. Selfies can be saved as a preview, which means you will not get any mirroring effects. Pressing and holding the shutter button while in camera mode will allow you to record videos as long as you hold it down.

The Night Sight mode also offers a new Infinity focus option that will be useful with the astrophotography model. In addition, an "HDR + control" should be available in some camera modes.
