When a 38-year-old man was crushed against his van in Brantley County, Georgia, on Sunday, he told investigators that his deceased wife was at the back. of the vehicle, the police said. She had been dead for weeks.
The man, Michael Wayne Jones Jr., later told the police he could drive them to the remains of his wife's four children – Cameron Bowers, 10; Preston Bowers, age 5; Mercalli Jones, 2; and Aiyana Jones, 1 – in nearby Charlton County.
Casei Jones, 32, of Summerfield, Fla., And her four children were reported missing Saturday, but her family has not been seen for six weeks, police said.
Mr. Jones was charged with second degree murder in the murder of his wife. The department is still working with the State Attorney's Office on the death of children. The authorities indicated that two of the children were Mr. Jones's.
"As a father, as a parent, it breaks my heart," said Billy Woods, Sheriff of Marion County, Florida, on Monday. "As a sheriff, it makes me angry."
After not seeing her daughter or grandchildren for weeks, Ms. Jones' mother went to the Marion County Sheriff's Department to report her as missing. She told the officials that she feared that Mr. Jones had done something to them, according to police documents.

After the disappearance investigation began, a Member of Parliament was sent to the last known address of the family in Summerfield, about 150 km south of where Mr. Jones crashed into his van. "As far as I'm concerned, as Sheriff of this county, the prison is not good enough," Sheriff Woods told the news conference. "He is not allowed to walk on the face of this earth."
Autopsies for the five victims will be held in Charlton County on Wednesday, Sgt. Bloom said.
"We had never been home before on any call and had never dealt with this couple before," said Sgt. Bloom said. "The" why "is a question everyone wants to know, but we do not know it."
