The IHOP Mother's Day tweet falls flat like a pancake with a joke on ultrasounds

Mother's Day: Brands have time to tweet about motherhood, to thank all moms and to recognize holidays in one way or another.

Also Mother's Day: a time for I JUMP tweet an ultrasound image showing a stack of pancakes in someone's belly.

Because for Mother's Day 2019, instead of publishing a syrupy tribute to real mothers, the pancake chain decided to connect to Twitter with a sonogram representing a great stack of pancakes.

Next to the picture, the IHOP Twitter account posted the following message, which did not make things better:

"If you have pancakes in your belly, does that make you a pancake mum?" Happy Mother's Day to all mothers! "

The responses to the tweet, posted Sunday morning, quickly became the International House of Please Stop.

IHOP had tried to play the concept of motherhood in a fun way, but the result was a hot chunk of failure.

The image of a huge stack of un-eaten pancakes covered with butter in the sonogram certainly attracted attention, if that was the goal.

But regardless of the vision envisioned for this tweet, the general reaction was a general disgust and derision – a refrain from "who approved that?" "How many people have seen this before it's posted?" And "delete this now".

Tweets conveyed the message of Mother's Day and many made fun of the brand's approach to the holidays.
