Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Wednesday criticized the Mueller report and imagined a scenario in which a Democratic presidential candidate allegedly called on China to "get" President Trump's tax returns.
The theory that raises eyebrows came during an interview on "The Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC. The conversation was aimed primarily at Maddow and Clinton to compare the problems faced during Attorney General Bill Barr's hearing before the Senate Committee on Judicial Affairs earlier in the day.
Clinton tore Republicans off the Senate for failing to enact a bipartisan law meant to take action against foreign interference in future "White House" elections. The presidential candidate twice – in an apparent effort to show the absurdity of all this – then proposed a hypothetical situation in which a Democrat who stood in 2020 makes a blatant appeal to a foreign country for the 39, help to participate in elections.
"Imagine, Rachel, that you had one of the Democratic nominees for 2020 on your show and that person said:" You know, the only other opponent that's as good as the Russians is China. So why would Russia have everything And since Russia clearly supports Republicans, why do not we ask China to support us? … And not only that, China, if you listen, why do not we? do not you get Trump's tax returns, I'm sure our media will reward you richly, "she theorized.
Clinton said – according to the Mueller report – that it would not be a plot because it's done openly. She hypothesized that the IRS offices would be bombarded with cyber attacks and that a new Wikileaks would emerge and could spread the information.
"There is nothing wrong with that," Clinton said sarcastically.
