The iPhone 11 Pro will be the first iPhone that really interests me – if it exists

Currently, the iPhone 11 does not seem interesting enough to let me out of my perennial ambivalence vis-à-vis Apple's smartphones – they all look like phones that have a hard time keeping up with theirs. Android competitors, but are shipped at a price twice as much – but there could be a device works that make me change my mind.

If we believe the rumors, the release of the iPhone 11 will also bring the surprise unveiling of the iPhone 11 Pro; a high-end device, even conforming to the standards of the iPhone, which will come with an Apple Pencil style stylus, and probably a large screen.

This iPhone 11 Pro is not confirmed by any means, but there were enough leaks on the handset so we could take them seriously, and this led us to consider the possibility that Apple takes its iPhones on the path of the iPads – showing several different variants, led by the powerful iPad Pro.

If real, the iPhone 11 Pro will be a huge departure from previous iPhones – and this fascinates me because I do not think that most iPhones get enough between iterations. Although I still respect Apple products – the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) is my flagship tablet – I always thought phones were a little disappointing.

However, if the rumors about the iPhone 11 Pro come true, it could be the first Apple phone that really interests me or, if I dare say, excited. Here's why.

What makes the iPhone 11 Pro so different?

Although we did not know the processing power, dimensions, specifications of the camera or the special features of the iPhone 11 Pro, we heard that it could be supplied with a smaller Apple Pencil stylus, similar to the S Pen Pen supplied with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

In Note 10, the S Pen Pen has many useful features. You can take notes, draw and annotate, and several gestures that trigger functions, such as taking pictures. Although they are similar in terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S10 presents a completely different telephone experience from Note 10, because it does not have a stylus.

This distinction will potentially be passed on in the iPhone 11 Pro. Assuming that the iPhone 11 base is a small step ahead of the iPhone XS, the Pro will be the device that will bring new interesting changes to the iPhone series, which is a rare advance in the range of phones from Apple.

What makes a stylus so special?

A phone stylus does not replace a finger for people who have constantly dirty hands, but a device that adds an extra layer of functionality to your handset.

The reason is that it is simply easier to draw with a stylus than with a finger. Pens are designed to draw on smartphone screens. The drawing experience is softer because there is less friction than when you use a human finger.

In addition to this, we humans are trained to write and draw with a pencil, not with our fingers, so it is more natural to use a stylus and much more accurate.

Have you ever tried taking quick notes with a smartphone? It is difficult to type effectively on such a small keyboard, and handwritten notes often seem gibberish when using a finger. However, when using a stylus, it is easy to write notes and thoughts quickly.

You can also draw and annotate documents, much more easily with a stylus, and it is much more natural to do all those things.

Why is it so exciting?

I like to take notes, sign forms and annotate documents a lot – I'm currently using an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil for this, but it can be quite annoying to have to take it out of my bag every time I have to perform a quick task. A phone with a stylus would be valuable.

Yes, I could buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 10, but I'm a big fan of the iPad Pro and I really respect how the Apple device ecosystem works. However, I have not used the phone line yet, because, honestly, iPhones seem a little boringand Android phones are all a lot more exciting at the moment.

But if Apple released an iPhone 11 Pro with a stylus, designed for professionals or creatives, it would leave the other iPhones in the dust, and I would be able to do much more.

In writing this opinion piece, I managed to get myself to anticipate a device that has not yet been confirmed remotely by Appleand keep in mind that it's quite possible that the iPhone 11 Pro is not a thing (or that it ends up being called something totally different). Rumors and leaks sometimes refer to real devices, but they are just as often completely wrong.

That said, I'm certainly not the only one hoping that Apple will find a new way to make the iPhone 11 range a step forward from the iPhone X – the kind of step that the iPhone XS was not – and a high-end device with stylus would only be this handset.
