The iPhone 12 Mini may not be long for this world

People with little hands have been calling for a smaller smartphone for years, and in 2020, Apple finally delivered with the iPhone 12 Mini. Except it looks like Apple could stop making its smaller ones phone due to less than stellar sales.

JP Morgan’s supply chain analyst William Yang reportedly slashed production expectations for the iPhone 12 Mini by 11 million units, Appleinsider reported. Yang went on to say that Apple may even shut down production entirely by the second quarter of this year. Yang also lowered his expectations for the standard iPhone 12 to 9 million units, while adjusting the numbers for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max to 2 million and 11 million units, respectively. The iPhone 11, surprisingly, has also received a boost; Yang has adjusted his expectations for the 2019 flagship to 8 million units.

This seems to corroborate recent reports that there is not a strong demand for the iPhone 12 Mini. Earlier in January, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners published a report That said, iPhone 12 Mini sales were only 6% of total iPhone sales in October and November. Granted, the 12 Mini didn’t go on sale until November, but so did the 12 Pro Max, which accounted for around 20% of new iPhone sales over the same period. Another recent report on Nikkei Asia’s supply chain Noted that while the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max exceeded expectations and the iPhone 12 met them, the 12 Mini was “slow.”

There is a lot reasons why it could be. To begin with, there is the iPhone SE. While the SE is slightly larger than the 12 Mini, it is also on the smaller side for a phone, and at $ 400 is also much cheaper than the Mini at $ 700. Another problem is the battery. Its small size means that it contains only one 2227 mAh battery, while the iPhone 12 uses a 2815mAh battery and the 12 Pro Max has a 3687mAh battery.
