A JetBlue flight to Newark Liberty International Airport was evacuated Saturday morning as authorities investigated a report about a suspicious object, said a spokesman for the Port Authority.

A flight attendant of the JetBlue 573 flight saw a suspicious article and alerted the authorities at about 7.45am, according to the spokesman of the port authority, Rudy King.

The officials did not immediately have more information about the article or why he was suspicious. The K-9 unit of the port police opened an investigation shortly before 9 am.

The 150 passengers were taken to an airport terminal, the spokesman said.

"JetBlue Flight 573, due to depart this morning from Newark to Tampa, has been delayed for extra security checks as a precaution," JetBlue said in a statement.

"Local law enforcement is on site and we are working to get customers to Tampa as soon as possible," the airline said.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed police vehicles around the plane and luggage on the outside of the plane.

No major incidents were reported in Newark as a result of the incident.
