The judge denies the bail of a suspect arrested in the shooting that killed the detective of Orleans, his friend

HOUSTON –Anthony Jenkins, 21, appeared in court on Wednesday and received no bail.

Jenkins is one of two men arrested in connection with the New Orleans detective’s fatal shooting. Everett Briscoe and his friend Dyrin Riculfy, 43, who was pronounced dead on Tuesday evening.

For the first time, detectives involved in the investigation said Briscoe carried a gun, but it is not known whether he attempted to use it in the attempted robbery.

Jenkins and Frederick Jackson, 19, are both charged with capital murder and attempted capital murder, but those charges will likely be dropped due to Riculfy’s death.

“The state has informed us that it intends to file capital murder charges against Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Jackson so that they both have capital murder charges,” Jenkin’s attorney said. , Anthony Osso.

Osso said Jenkins claims he did not shoot the two victims, but was only the driver.

“Those of you in the courtroom heard that our client talked about just being the driver and didn’t know someone was going to get shot,” Osso said.

Jackson claimed he was also just the getaway driver. He is expected in court on Thursday morning.

Investigators said there was a third person of interest, but no information was released about that person or how he was involved.
