The last five episodes recorded by Alex Trebek as longtime host of “Jeopardy!” will be broadcast from Monday.
Trebek, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in November, will be honored at the screening of his final episode on Friday with “a special tribute to the life and work of the man who helmed the favorite trivia game of America with flair, style and sophistication for 36+ years, ”according to a statement from“ Jeopardy! Sony Pictures Television producer.
The final episodes of Trebek were initially scheduled to air during Christmas week, but the producers pushed back show hours because they said the holidays could be too chaotic for viewers to listen to.
The Canada-U.S. Game show host announced his cancer diagnosis in March 2019, but recorded the episodes of the 2020-2021 season before passing away at the age of 80.
The producers say he had no idea what ended up being his last show would actually be his last.
“Danger!” will continue to air new episodes starting Jan. 11 with guest host and winner of the $ 4,370,700 lifetime show, Ken Jennings, at the helm.
The show hasn’t appointed a new permanent host to replace Trebek, but bookies are already taking bets on his successor, with Jennings, George Stephanopoulos, LeVar Burton, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Pat Sajak among the favorites.
