The first preview of HBO’s “The Last of Us” TV series, starring Pedro Pascal, has been revealed.

Based on the famous PlayStation video game of the same name, the HBO series is set 20 years after modern civilization was destroyed by a deadly mushroom. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to get Ellie, played by “Game of Thrones” actress Bella Ramsey, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts out as a small job quickly turns into a brutal, heart-wrenching journey as they both have to travel through the United States and depend on each other for survival.

Naughty Dog, the video game developer and producer of the television series, posted the show’s very first image on Sunday night. Pascal and Ramsey, seen from the back, match the video game’s Joel and Ellie almost perfectly, right down to their sturdy clothes and worn backpacks. The two gaze at a grassy hill, where the remains of destroyed planes litter the countryside.

The cast includes Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Joel’s brother, Nico Parker as Sarah, Joel’s daughter, and Merle Dandridge reprise her video game role of Marlene, the leader of the resistance group Fireflies fighting for power against the military regime of the government.

“Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin will write and produce “The Last of Us”, with video game writer and creative director Neil Druckmann. Carolyn Strauss, Rose Lam, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also be executive producers. Kantemir Balagov will lead the driver, with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi also attached to the achievement. The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games and Naughty Dog.

“The Last of Us” is currently in production, with no release date announced at this time.
