PULASKI, Va. (AP / WNCN) – A suit for wrongful death brought following the drowning of a 5-year-old Virginia boy in a septic tank was settled with a $ 200,000 payment to his parents and to his sister.
The Roanoke Times announced that the order placed on Wednesday in the Pulaski County Borough Court settled the last court case related to the death of the boy in March 2015.
Gary and Sharon Meadows owned the property where Noah Thomas died and were the other defendants in the wrongful death suit. The order putting an end to the case indicated that the couple did not acknowledge any responsibility for the boy's death.
Noah disappeared from the mobile home rented by his family while his mother took a nap. He was found in a septic tank after four days of research.
Noah's parents, Ashley White and Paul Thomas, were found guilty of violence and neglect of children.
According to the arrest warrants filed in the Pulaski County Family and Juvenile Relations Court, Paul Thomas "has shown reckless disregard for human life," and "the incident has resulted in the death of Noah ".
According to the medical examiner, Noah Thomas died of drowning and hypothermia.
Police said that when they arrived home after Noah's disappearance, the cover was on the septic tank in which he was found.
Sources say that the septic tank is considered a "high" even if it is at ground level. This type of tank has a plastic lid that goes on top.
Sources say the tank is 4 feet by 8 and 5.5 feet deep. The septic tank contains about 1000 gallons.
