The latest set of Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 was released earlier this week, bringing a number of unexpected problems. First, the Redmond giant has confirmed that problems with the Start menu and Windows Search are under review. Later, users started reporting audio issues, including missing audio effects and a much lower sound volume. Specifically, the problems faced by those who are on the 18362.356 version.
This, however, does not seem to be the last of the unexpected problems, as some users also encounter network card issues (via Windows Latest).
According to a Microsoft community forum user, "After installing the latest KB4515384 update, my Intel Wireless Network Card and my wireless LAN card have stopped working." Device Manager reports a device error and can not start it, uninstalling KB4515384 has solved the problem. "
Another user has documented the problem on the comment hub as follows:
"KB4515384 breaks Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters on my PC Appears to create new devices labeled" # 2 "and when hiding hidden devices in Device Manager, previously named devices appear. Uninstalling these new and old drivers does not solve the problem (that is, "ethernet unplugged", which is clearly not the case), the only option was to uninstall this update. "
Meanwhile, Reddit users have reported similar problems, with one user saying that downloading the latest Intel drivers or the new installation did not solve the problem. As such, the Ethernet and Wi-Fi features end up being disabled for these users.
Users affected by this bug may attempt to reactivate the network adapter through Device Manager and reboot their systems. However, according to all reports, it seems that the only fix for now is to uninstall the cumulative update KB4515384. Although Microsoft has not yet officially recognized the problem, users hope that an appropriate workaround will soon be detailed.
