Fortnite is receiving a new update today bringing significant gameplay changes for console owners. Epic today unveiled version 8.10 of the game, introducing major changes in the matchmaking system.
With today's update, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players are part of the same pool of players, which means they will play together and against each other. The extension of its cross-play functionality basically means that you have no option but to compete with players on a different console. The feature allows you to sign up, but if you were to withdraw, you would be limited to the game mode and the creation mode.
Epic also makes changes to Nintendo Switch players. If you play on the switch, you will now play with and compete with mobile users on Android and iOS. Previously, the switch was on the same match pool as the PS4 and Xbox One, but Epic makes it so that switch players now play with mobile users. "We expect a better average game experience per game for Mobile and Switch players," the company said.
The changes to Fortnite's cross play are quite interesting, mainly because of the culture of the player community. For so long, console wars have always been very controversial, and with an extension of cross-play so that PS4 and Xbox One players come face to face, the situation will become much more controversial and disastrous.
