12:28 PT – The World Surf League confirmed that Garcia had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt.

In the past, Garcia has spoken publicly about his depression issues and even asked his fans about treatment.

Legend of the surf Sunny Garcia – six-time winner of the Triple Crown of Surfing – is fighting for his life in a Portland hospital, confirmed the World Surf League.

The 49-year-old was admitted to the Oregon Hospital on Monday. Details regarding its condition have not been made public.

WSL says Garcia is currently in intensive care.

Garcia is one of the most loved people of professional surfing. He grew up in Hawaii – and became a close friend of surf stars like Kelly Slater and Jamie O & # 39; Brien.

He is an absolute STUD in the water – he won the World Championship of the World Surf League in 2000. He was inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Garcia has also become the second professional surfer in history to win more than $ 1 million in prizes, which is a huge feat.

Outside of the water, Sunny has had some problems over the years – he served a prison sentence in 2007 in a tax evasion case.

Years later, Garcia said the result of this experiment was "never trust your CPA … do not trust anyone, anyway."

Garcia explained how much he loved his family and one of his biggest fears would be to lose them.

He is also a religious who goes to church "from time to time".

Garcia has also insisted that people come to surf Hawaii over the years – but he is very keen to see people respect Hawaiian culture.

"Come, enjoy and be respectful, yes – if you can be like that, we will receive you with open arms, but if you want to come and pee in my garden, you could have a slap in your head."
