An issue with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’s photo mode gives an uncomfortable yet fascinating look at one of the game’s Asari characters.
A fan of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition discovered an unfortunate issue in the game’s photo mode affecting an Asari character. While the photo mode normally gives players a chance to view Mass Effect characters up close, that probably goes too far.
Few races in the Mass Effect The series are as iconic as the Asari, the all-female, blue-skinned race that dominates much of the Milky Way’s political and scientific discourse. Many players will probably think of the brilliant Liara T’Soni when they think of the Asari; not only is she a popular romantic option, but Liara will be part of Mass effect 4 in a certain way. Yet even Liara isn’t above the unflattering issues that make her weird or even scary.

As shared by Reddit user Grizzlei, zooming in on Liara in the game’s photo mode exposes an eyeball and teeth, among other parts of her head. While it’s fascinating to see Liara’s full eyeball, the overall effect is quite disturbing. Fans might not claim Liara T’Soni statues and other merchandise if they saw her look like this. At the very least, leaving photo mode would bring the game back to normal, allowing players to look at Liara’s face instead.
It’s oddly fitting that Liara looks creepy because of the issue, as she routinely scares many characters in the game world. Although not many people consider Liara to be a scary or intimidating character in most circumstances , those on his side probably don’t have long to live. This is especially true after Liara’s rise to the role of Shadow Broker towards the end of Mass effect 2, when she gains some power in the underworld of the galaxy.
That said, it’s probably for the best that the image focuses on Liara, rather than more sinister Asari characters like Mass effect 2Morinth, secret party member. Considering that Morinth will kill Shepard for an intimate moment if given the opportunity, it would be alarming to see Morinth’s eye zoomed in. After all, anyone who would be able to see something similar in the game world would likely perish very soon after.
For a more positive version of the picture, this serves to reinforce how human the Asari really look. The teeth and eyeball could easily be from any of the human characters in the game. While some races in the game clearly look quite alien, like Mass Effectsloth-like elcor and jellyfish-like hanar, others share human-like eyes, teeth, and body shape. Of course, Asari still have distinctly non-human traits, like their long lifespan and unique mating behavior.
