A breathtaking aurora borealis shaped like a fire-breathing green dragon swept over Iceland in early February in a shining display of dazzling light.

Dragons may be the stuff of fairy tales and fantasy, but NASA released Feb. 18 a very real and stunning photo of the aurora taken by Jingyi Zhang on Feb. 6 as a photo d & rsquo; Astronomy of the day.

The photographer's mother, who ran towards the show, can be seen in the foreground in a dark landscape with a flashing dawn overhead.

The aurora colored lights are caused by the collision of charged particles of the sun with the upper Earth's atmosphere around the north and south magnetic poles.
