The Mandalorian season 2 ended with a post-credits scene that set up the future of the galaxy other Favorite bounty hunter in a new show called Boba Fett’s book, debuting in 2021. Temuera Morrison – who first appeared as Boba’s father, Jango Fett, in Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones – returned to play Boba in The Mandalorian season 2.
Rumors of a Star wars projects focused on Boba Fett have been circulating for several years. Lucasfilm reportedly planned a spin-off film similar to Rogue One and Solo, but canceled it after Solo disappointed at the box office. Morrison’s casting in The Mandalorian Season 2 was followed by rumors that a Boba Fett TV show was in development, but it was not one of the many upcoming Star Wars projects announced on Disney’s Investor Day. It seems that this surprise was saved for The MandalorianPost-credits stinger.

Boba Fett only played a minor role in the original Star wars trilogy, but has become a fan favorite character. The return of Boba and his unique ship, the Slave I, was one of the highlights of The Mandalorian season 2. Here’s how the post-credits scene from the finale set up the rest of his journey.
What Happens In The Mandalorian Boba Fett’s Post-Credits Scene
After Din Djarin bids his emotional farewell to Baby Yoda (aka Grogu), who is taken to be trained as a Jedi by Luke Skywalker, The Mandalorian The post-credits scene from the Season 2 finale reveals what two of his allies will do next. Boba Fett pledged to help Mando save the child after Baby Yoda was kidnapped on the ancient Jedi planet Tython. Boba had promised the child’s safety in exchange for the return of his father’s armor, and his commitment to helping save Baby Yoda was an extension of that promise. The episode set up Boba, who was primarily an antagonist in his previous one. Star wars appearances, like a man who has been redeemed and firmly believes in a code of honor.
Post-credits scene returns to a familiar place from the original Star wars film trilogy: the palace of Jabba the Hutt, in the sea of the Tatooine dunes. Jabba himself met a vile end in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi when a slave princess Leia strangled him to death with her chains. In the same fight, Boba Fett was thrown into the Sarlacc Pit where he was originally believed to have been eaten by the giant desert creature, but (as we now know) managed to escape, well that without his armor. The Mandalorian reveals that Jabba’s majordomo, Twi’lek Bib Fortuna, took over the management of the palace after Jabba’s death.
His reign ended quickly after Fennec Shand – the assassin and the pay gun played by Ming-Na Wen, who first appeared in The Mandalorian season 1 and returned as Boba’s ally in season 2 – enter the palace and shoot down all the guards in Bib Fortuna, before freeing a Twi’lek slave. When Boba follows her, Bib complains unconvincingly that he thought Boba was dead (earlier in the season, Boba had described being left for dead in the merciless Dune Sea landscape) before Boba did. kill. The one-time bounty hunter then takes his place on Jabba’s former throne, with Fennec by his side, before the final screen teases the arrival of Boba Fett’s book next year.
What future for Boba Fett & Fennec Shand?
Both Boba Fett and Fennec Shand’s skills lie in being hired to kill or capture people, so it seems likely that Boba is considering starting his own Bounty Hunter Guild chapter on Tatooine, using the strength of the former throne of Jabba and the resources at his disposal. Jabba the Hutt was a gangster and crime lord, and the presence of slave Twi’lek confirms that Bib Fortuna continued his most nasty business ventures after the giant slug’s death. While Boba and Fennec are likely willing to help themselves rather than the finicky Jedi babies, they can be expected to clean up Jabba’s old operation, based on Fennec’s release of the slave. .
Beyond establishing their own operation, however, Boba and Fennec could also seek to eradicate the remnants of the Empire. When Boba saw Moff Gideon’s light cruiser and realized the Empire was back, he seemed deeply disturbed – even though at one point he was working alongside the Empire. Boba has strong ties to the former Galactic Government, as he seized power through an army of his father’s clones. Boba himself is actually another Jango Fett clone rather than his biological son, although he was raised by Jango and inherited his armor. Jango was killed by Jedi master Mace Windu, but he died in the service of the Empire nonetheless and Boba almost did the same. After his years of wandering the Tatooine Dune Sea, Boba may have come to realize the evils of the Empire and dread its return.
The outer rim, where Tatooine is located, is the wild west of the Star wars galaxy – deemed untamed by the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire. The New Republic, for its part, is still weak and struggling to rebuild itself after the fall of the Empire, and is therefore not able to put the Outer Rim down. Boba Fett could use his newfound power to take control of his own corner of the galaxy – which would certainly suit him taking his seat on the palace throne. Hi King Fett!
What we know about Boba Fett’s book
Disney has yet to reveal anything more about Boba Fett’s book beyond the title of the show and the planned release date. He will join two other upcoming Star Wars shows, Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic, taking place simultaneously with The Mandalorian. Although the period after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi has been thoroughly explored over the years in Star wars books, comics, and video games, most of these stories have now been removed from official canon and have become Star Wars Legends. This means that there is a lot of unknown about what happened in the galaxy between the end of the original. Star wars trilogy and the start of the sequel trilogy – and all three shows can explore this period both independently and in crossovers.
It was confirmed during the presentation of Disney’s Investors Day that Ahsoka and the Rangers of the New Republic will eventually build a crossroads, which means that Boba Fett’s book could potentially join them. However, beyond single crosses, there is also great potential for cross-pollination between sets. Secondary characters like Migs Mayfeld, Greef Karga, and Peli Motto can appear on each of them, and Boba Fett’s book Being focused on Tatooine means that Peli and Marshal Cobb Vanth (who owned and wore Boba’s armor for a while) are likely to make an appearance. Having established himself alongside Boba after saving his life, it looks like Fennec will fulfill the same role Bib Fortuna once played for Jabba, as Boba’s right-hand man and majordomo.
Will Boba Fett’s book replace Mandalorian season 3?
The end of The Mandalorian Season 2 closed the arc of the series’ first 16 chapters, from Din Djarin discovering Baby Yoda to delivering him into the arms of Luke Skywalker. Between this end and the announcement of Boba Fett’s book, some fans may wonder if Boba Fett’s book will replace The Mandalorian as the next chapter in the story, with Mando taking a back seat as the story continues.
During the Disney Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the next chapter of The Mandalorian will arrive in time for Christmas 2021, which many have taken as confirmation of Season 3. However, she notably didn’t use the words “season 3,” meaning she may have been referring to Boba Fett’s book instead of. It doesn’t mean that Boba Fett’s book replace The Mandalorian season 3 (Mando and Baby Yoda are such popular characters that they probably won’t be pushed into the background), but that means we may have to wait a little longer for Chapter 17. Boba Fett’s book could in fact be a miniseries meant as some sort of special holiday for The Mandalorian, to create space between Mando and Baby Yoda’s emotional farewells and their alleged reunion in Season 3.
Almost 40 years after his original onscreen death, Boba is back in his armor and ready to take on a changing galaxy. The potential for new stories is huge, and I hope Disney reveals more about it. Boba Fett’s book soon.
