‘The Mandalorian’ star Gina Carano fired amid social media controversy

“Gina Carano is currently not employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans to be employed in the future,” Lucasfilm said in a statement.

Gina Carano will not return to The Mandalorian, after sharing a post on social media, deducing that being a Republican today is like being a Jew during the Holocaust.

“Gina Carano is currently not employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans to be employed in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nonetheless, his social media posts denigrating people for their cultural and religious identity are heinous and unacceptable.”

The hashtag #FireGinaCarano was all the rage on Wednesday following an Instagram post from the outspoken conservative actor and former mixed martial artist faced a harsh backlash. The post has since been removed, but the screenshots were shared widely by social media users who called for his dismissal from the Disney + hit. Star wars to show.

This isn’t the first time Carano, who plays former Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, has been at the center of social media anger for his political comments. Last November, she posted controversial tweets, in which she making fun of wearing a mask amid the new coronavirus pandemic and another in which it falsely suggested electoral fraud occurred in the 2020 presidential election.

“They had been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today it was the last straw,” said a source familiar with Lucasfilm’s thinking. THR.

The Mandalorian debuted on Disney + in November 2019 has helped propel the streaming service to impressive subscription numbers. Many Mandalorian spinoffs are in the works from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, including Rangers of the New Republic, who could potentially have played Carano, although that was never officially confirmed.

But sources say Lucasfilm had planned to unveil Carano as the star of his own show during an Investor Day presentation in December, but abandoned those plans following his November tweets.
