The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal to play Joel on HBO’s the Last of Us TV show

Pedro Pascal, who you might recognize as The Mandalorian himself, was cast as Joel in the HBO television adaptation of The last of us, as first reported by Deadline. The casting was confirmed shortly after by The last of us creative director (and executive producer and writer of the show) Neil Druckmann.

Pascal’s confirmed casting comes just hours after the announcement of Bella Ramsey, who played fan favorite ruler Lyanna Mormont in The iron Throne, will play Ellie, Joel’s surrogate daughter. (Pascal also played a role on The iron Throne – he played Oberyn Martell, Dorne’s red viper.) It also comes shortly after news that Lucasfilm severed ties with one of Pascal’s co-stars on The Mandalorian, Gina Carano.

The first game of The last of us Much of the focus of the series is on Joel and Ellie’s relationship, and it seems likely that the series’ initial run will keep the focus on both characters as well. In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, the series already has other notable talents on board – Chernobyl Craig Mazin is set to become a writer and executive producer, and Kantemir Balagov, who directed an independent WWII drama. Beanpole, is configured to run the pilot episode.
