BEIJING – The official indicator of activity in China's crucial manufacturing sector rebounded sharply in March, suggesting that Beijing's support policies are gaining ground.

Factories recorded a rebound in activity almost everywhere, from new orders to production, according to the official index of purchasing managers released Sunday. The index rose from 49.2 in February to 50.5 in March, its highest level in six months. This figure is well above the expectations of many economists.
