“The Masked Dancer” revealed the identity of another dancer on Wednesday night, starring none other than survivor-turned activist Elizabeth Smart.
-
“The Masked Dancer” – a spin-off of “The Masked Singer” – is a reality TV show where celebrities and stars in costumes compete in a dance competition.
What’s going on?
On Wednesday night, the show hosted the Group B playoffs. Smart was revealed to be the moth after failing to beat his opponents in the dance round.
Why is this important
Most of the celebrities revealed on “The Masked Singer” or “The Masked Dancer” are singers, athletes, YouTube stars and actors. Meanwhile, Smart became an activist for abuse survivors after being taken from her bedroom in 2002.
Why did she do it?
Smart told host Craig Robinson that she was on the show for fun.
- “My grandmother passed away very recently, but she was so much fun. She never let a moment pass. And so when that opportunity presented itself, I thought, “I’m living a pretty serious life and I’m going to take this opportunity and have fun,” said Smart.
- “It was probably the most terrifying thing I have ever done on purpose,” Smart said. “But it was a lot of fun. I mean, how many times does a person get to say that they have a whole team of people working with them every day like five people working there to help you be the best you can be. “
Judge Brian Austin Green, who was the only one to correctly judge the Moth’s identity, praised Smart for his courage.
- “Can I just say that for what you’ve been through in your life you’ve been an inspiration to so many people and you’ve done so much good in a really tough situation, and we need more people like you on the planet. Thank you.”
