The Masked Singer Season 5 Episode 4 Reveals Grandpa Monster’s Identity

SPOIL ALERT: Don’t read ahead if you haven’t watched Season 5, Episode 4 of “The Masked Singer,” which airs March 31st on Fox.

Logan Paul admits his experience on “The Masked Singer” got off to a rough start. Paul, who was the next celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” said learning to sing and dance at the same time for the show wasn’t exactly what it was all about. ‘waited.

“I can barely sing, I’ve never played that way let alone add dancing to it,” said Paul, who played as Grandpa Monster. “It’s a nightmare. And that was in the beginning, until I went through that bump and really started falling in love with the show.

But he remembers being “scared and hesitant” from the start. “My PR team got the angry call, I was like, ‘This show isn’t for me, I’m not good at it. They make me dance, I thought I was going to sing! Paul said. “And they’re like, just trust the process, believe in yourself.”

Paul did, and his tune changed after his first episode. “I was like oh my gosh it’s really fun,” he says. “Once you like to open up and let go, it’s a great place to be vulnerable and make a fresh start, if you will, because you’re anonymous. And the moment I fell in love with the series, I was knocked out in the second round!

He then joked, “And that’s how it works, man. When you get attached to things, you fuck yourself! Never fall in love, children. This is the lesson.

Paul also fell in love with his old Grandpa Monster costume precisely because it looked like the opposite of his energetic self. “I loved him,” Paul said. “So I didn’t really need a choice. I thought he would be a funny diversion in his geriatric nature, and then me as a child, teeming with life inside like a grandpa costume. I thought it would be funny and provide a nice little juxtaposition.

Indeed, he managed to deceive the panelists of the show. Nicole Scherzinger came close (but not quite) in naming Jake Paul – Logan Paul’s brother. Meanwhile, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg went with Michael “The Miz” Mizanin; Ken Jeong thought it was Kevin Hart; and Robin Thicke thought it was Johnny Manziel (“Johnny Football”).

“I was puzzled by the comments and the number of people who didn’t guess me,” Paul said. “I was sure, like I think I even called my manager after the first performance and I was like, my voice is so identifiable, there are so many clips of me screaming, screaming, singing online. People are going to guess it’s me, not to mention that I’m jumping and sprinting and kicking the stage. But few people guessed it was me. Which, I guess, proves that the whole model of the show is that anonymous singing is harder to predict than you might think.

For his second song, Paul sang “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett. Previously, he had performed “Mambo n ° 5 (A little bit of…)” by Lou Bega. If Paul had continued, he was prepping Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” for his next song.

“I was convinced I was going to make it to the third round,” he said. “I even said in the post-performance interview, I was like, there’s no way I’m coming home tonight, I felt like I had run over him. I felt like the energy was there, I felt my performance was good.

Meanwhile, it’s not Paul’s only high-profile TV appearance this week; he is also expected to be the guest on Friday’s episode of “WWE Smackdown” – also on Fox – as a guest of Sami Zayn. “I just do stuff,” Paul said. “I love to work and I love to do great shows. Masked Singer gave me the opportunity to be on the show and WWE invited me.

As to whether he wants to explore singing more, Paul said, “I would if I didn’t have a million other things to do as well. It was difficult to fit it into the calendar, these are quite demanding days. And I’m in full training camp to fight Floyd Mayweather right now, so what I had to take away was just that I really love playing and if I can keep doing it on as big a scale as I can. definitely will.

Meanwhile, guest host Niecy Nash continued her run on Wednesday’s show, as a replacement for regular host Nick Cannon, who was unable to return for the first episodes of this season due to ” a diagnosis of COVID-19.

Also new this season, “wildcard” competitors will be introduced to the competition and join the battle for the Golden Mask trophy. The Celebrities in Season 5 will be split into two groups of five (A and B), but brand new, masked celebrities will join the wildcard rounds and compete as well. Additionally, the series has added a new character, a rooster named “Cluedle-Doo,” who promises to add a bit of trouble to the proceedings and share additional clues with viewers.

This season’s costumes include the raccoon, seashell, black swan, snail, monster grandfather, phoenix, chameleon, Russian doll (s), porcupine, piglet, and jokers. Paul as Grandpa Monster Trejo joins previously unmasked celebrities Danny Trejo (as Raccoon), Caitlyn Jenner (as Phoenix), and Kermit the Frog (as Snail).

Season 5 contestants have 26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records.

The show’s panelists are also competing for a “Golden Ear” trophy based on their first impressions of each masked artist (which McCarthy last won). Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg each had a point so far, heading into this episode. This week, for Grandpa Monster, McCarthy Wahlberg went with Morgan Freeman; Jeong went with Emmitt Smith; Thicke was Jonny Manziel; and Scherzinger went with Cam Newton. None of them got a point.

Here are the other contestants and their performances in episode two, “Group B Wildcard Round – Rule of Claw”:

Voice off: “Making my debut on this stage with four days’ notice was a crazy race. But I countered my nervous energy with a love song that made me feel right at home. When you have your eye on the prize, no pain, no tears, and no archnemesis can stand in your way. I have always had the ribs. But it was my competitive nature that made me a hero of my hometown. When I arrived in the big leagues, I never expected a life of competition with my archrivals. But that only made me train harder. Because I never throw in the towel. Tonight when those lights come on, it’s Friday night again, even a Wednesday. Clear eyes, full belly, can not lose. “

It made me want to put words into my gratitude to the person who brought me to life and gave me the confidence to start this journey. It was not always an easy trip for us. The higher I flew, the harder it became for them to keep pace. I saw their heartbreaking, so I had to let them go. It was the most difficult decision of my life. Over time, I realized that I could only take flight with the wings they gave me. Finally, we were able to return to each other’s lives, just like birds with a feather do. I’m grateful we never let go and hope this performance shows them how much they mean to me.
Previous song: “Barracuda”, by heart

When I was young, a person inseparable from me was constantly under attack for who they were. It was hard to see, but I helped her lift herself up until she was finally able to embrace what made her unique. But then tragedy struck and it was taken from me. But through the pain, it’s the strength of my family that keeps me standing and being a star again. My song tonight is a tribute to that love and to the family members who came before me. Because after all the darkness, it’s time to finally let the light in.
