Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston were expected to play in a singles match on SmackDown Live, before WWE ended the booking.

What is the story?

The last episode of SmackDown Live was titled by a 6-man team match starring Drew McIntyre and 5 other Superstars.

However, it's the sudden demise of McIntyre's match that has been at the center of several discussions within the professional wrestling community ever since.

Although initial speculation suggested that McIntyre may have suffered a legitimate injury, this was later revealed by Dave Meltzer, from Fight Observe Radio that his disappearance was planned by the WWE … On this note, PWInsider has now revealed additional details regarding the strange disappearance of McIntyre.

In case you did not know …

The last episode of SmackDown Live was closed with a 6-player team match: The New Day (WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods) against Drew McIntyre and The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro).

While McIntyre seemed to have the upper hand during a certain phase of the match, when SmackDown Live came back from a commercial break, "The Scottish Psychopath" was not visible.

The New Day finally ended up winning the duel and subsequently celebrated in the ring, ending the episode of SmackDown Live.

The heart of the problem

As we reported earlier, Dave Meltzer of Fight Observe Radio, said the WWE planned Drew McIntyre's exit from the fight, his goal being to protect the momentum of his character, by not fighting against the losers.

WWE intends to present McIntyre as a formidable stub and one of the biggest stars in the company. therefore, after his "clean" defeat against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 35, WWE assured that fans do not see him with The Bar while they lose the 6-man team match against The New Day on SmackDown Live.

PWInsider Now reports that WWE originally planned to host a singles match between WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre on SmackDown Live. Nevertheless, the plans changed and instead, we got the match-up 6-Man Tag Team mentioned above.

To date, the reason the WWE has ended the singles match between Kingston and McIntyre has not been revealed yet. In addition, PWInsider also explained that the WWE had reduced the time allowed for the 6-man team match, and that the focus was mainly on the fact that The New Day was beating the bar.

Plus, we add that there was simply not enough time to explain why McIntyre had suddenly disappeared from the main SmackDown Live event. Ergo, the show was closed without the commentators explaining McIntyre's abrupt exit, which had simply ordered him to go backstage during the commercial break.

And after?

Fans present for SmackDown Live's recordings noticed that McIntyre appeared to have been hurt when he was heading backstage during the commercial break.

Anyway, all signs suggest that McIntyre continues to be portrayed as a monster heel under RAW in the days to come.
