The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is another way to piss off half-fat Affalterbach

Barely a month seems to be happening without Mercedes-AMG revealing a new '35 model. We already have the A35, the A35 sedan, the CLA 35 and the CLA 35 Shooting Brake – a lower-tier AMG foursome. And now, they have just been joined by a beginner.

This is the GLB 35, a fast crossover that has a lot of, uh, crossing with the eventual GLA 35.

From the very attractive Mercedes GLB as a starting point, the "35" version uses the same formula as its cousins. A 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine delivers 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque on all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox.

This is not a "good" AMG factory, but rather the four pans of the GLB 250 with a bit of AMG spicy sauce. Its four-wheel drive system is also a simple affair, never sending more than 50% of power to the rear wheels. If you want an engine built entirely by Affalterbach and the drifting potential of drift, a GLB 45 should arrive at some point.

Being the heaviest of the '35 family in constant expansion, the GLB 35 is also the slowest. 0-62 mph takes 5.2 seconds, half a second slower than the tailgate. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Reflecting the other 35s, the hottest GLB revitalized the suspension geometry with redesigned steering knuckles and a brand new rear subframe. Adaptive AMG Ride Control dampers are available as an option.

It does not offer surprises, but it contains a master card on the other 35 models – an optional configuration with seven seats. The 560-liter boot that can be extended to 1755 liters with the seats folded down also makes things easier. Convenient.

It will take a little while before we know how much it costs, but since the already popular GLB 220d is already £ 45,950, it is safe to assume that the GLB 35 will be close to £ 50,000. .
