NEW YORK – The relative inability of Mets to win circuits at Citi Field is well documented. On Saturday, J.D. Davis and his teammates set out to suppress this reputation.

Davis hit two homers – one of them is the hardest hit circuit of the Majors this season, the other the longest of a Met – and three more Mets have added solo shots in a 6-5 win, defeated by the Nationals at Citi Field.

Davis' fourth-round attack on Saturday left his stick at 114.7 mph, according to data from Statcast, surpassing all other Majors successes this season. It was also the Met's most hit ball in any context this season, and the third Mets track since Statcast started following them in 2015.

Two races later, Davis hit the longest Mets circuit of the year, crushing another 446-foot ball to the left. Each time, his solo circuits give the Mets a lead of one point.

The Mets eventually gave up the lead to Jeurys Familia, who gave two home runs early in the eighth. But Pete Alonso and Robinson Cano scored two late home goals and Keon Broxton gave the Mets the advantage with a mere RBI in the center. Michael Conforto also added a solo shot earlier in the game.
