The Mighty Ducks: game changers returns for more hockey glory. Disney + announced Monday that the series with Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham has been renewed for season 2.
Series creator Steve Brill and showrunners Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith will all return to executive production on Season 2, which is slated to begin production in early 2022.
The series began with the Ducks as a powerful organization, led by Coach T, which operates under a fierce ideology in which winning is everything. After 12-year-old Evan was kicked out of the Ducks, he formed his own team, the Don’t Bothers, with the help of his mother Alex. A broken Bombay reluctantly allowed the newly formed team to practice on their ice rink, and he eventually broke his cranky shell to become their coach.
The season ended with (SPOIL ALERT!) The Don’t Bothers lost the state championship game due to Sofi’s injury, only to defeat the Ducks in an unauthorized game and gain ownership of the coveted team nickname.
Brill, who wrote the three Mighty ducks movies, already has ideas for Season 2, including potentially bringing in Joshua Jackson’s Charlie Conway and SNL Russ Tyler from Kenan Thompson for some highly anticipated cameos.
“Josh and I… were in talks four years ago to do this show together, and then it wasn’t even possible for him to be in talks for the episodes that I did,” Brill told TVLine. . “For season 2, I would love to re-engage and explore this concept again, depending on his schedule… The question is, can he do an entire season? It’s a big engagement, and he’s still on another show. I really want to be able to write him a big role and a big arc in one season. “
Brill also noted that “Kenan and I [talked about whether] he could come next season and do at least one episode. He said he would, so I’m going to make him do it.
