The chef of the famous Manhattan restaurant, who disappeared without explanation, was found dead, according to the restaurant.

"We have learned with sadness that Andrea Zamperoni, a respected and beloved member of the Cipriani team for many years, missing, has been found dead," said Cipriani Dolci in a statement to NBC News on Thursday.

"His brother is overwhelmed by grief and regrets that he is not available to comment," the statement said. "We believe the NYPD is making every effort to investigate and clarify this tragic situation."

Zamperoni, the chief of Cipriani Dolci at Grand Central Station, has not unexpectedly missed a day of work for a decade, said his assistant chief, Ignacio Albo. But Zamperoni, 33, did not show up Monday and since then.

"A good friend, a family member and a colleague are now gone and gone – of course, I can not help but think about the worst," Albo told NBC New York.

Cipriani Dolci, a restaurant and balcony bar overlooking Grand Central's lobby, is a popular long-time destination for local commuters and tourists alike. The Cipriani chain has restaurants all over the world.

The New York City Police Department announced that Zamperoni was reported missing on Monday. His mother in Italy became worried when he missed their daily call Sunday, reported NBC New York.

Police said Zamperoni was last seen near his home in Flushing, Queens.

"We will keep Andrea's family in our thoughts and prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time," said Cipriani Dolci. "Andrea was a responsible, generous, kind and hardworking person who will be missed by all."
