The MLB players' weekend uniforms are a hit or a big flop, depending on who you talk to

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In old cinematic westerns, good guys always wore white and bad guys dressed all in black. However, when Terry Francona, manager of Cleveland Indians, donned the monochromatic outfit associated with the weekend's Major League Baseball players, a different picture crossed his mind.

"What's the slogan?" Let the kids play? "Asked Francona wearing the same black pants that half of the league teams played this weekend," Let the adults look like morons. "

Regardless of Francona's fears, the all-white, all-black uniforms selected for this year's players' weekend games were meant to allow players to play with studded shoes, cuffs and colorful accessories on a plain background. According to your interlocutor, this is a resounding success or a miss.

News watchers in the league struggled to read the names and numbers on the white shirts. But fans seem to love the look of the matte black batting helmets on the all-black sweater and pants. Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis thinks the black look is pissed off.

"It's a change of pace," said Kipnis. "You want the players' weekend to be different. Normally, they adopt neon colors and are noisy or something, but I like the elegant look of matte black. "

Previously, players' weekend uniforms played with each team's colors and were designed to resemble small league jerseys, connecting players to their course in the game. This year, the MLB Players Association decided to adopt a common approach for the 30 teams.

They also gave players the ability to add emoticons to their nicknames, inspired by Brad Boxberger's original uniform last season. Carlos Carrasco appreciated the fact that the emoji biscuit on the back of his sweater looked like someone who had already taken a bite.

"It's something completely different," said Carrasco.

Francisco Lindor, ambassador of the MLB Players Association this weekend, added the emojis to his "Mr. Smile "shirt. Lindor said he and his teammates were eager to see who was offering the funniest nicknames, cleats and coolest accessories on the weekend.

"At the end of the day, it's the weekend of the players, it's not the Lindor weekend," he said. "We are all in the same boat."

Lindor's colorful studded shoes represent his Puerto Rican heritage, including the legendary Roberto Clemente, a national festival known as Vejigante and the national birds, a parrot and a mascot.

"Puerto Rico is underlined and the national anthem is written there," Lindor said.

Kipnis said the weekend of the players was a way to give players a chance to express themselves, and that the league has taken up the success of the initiative throughout the year.

"You can find a lot of things in the money," said Kipnis. "But I think they do enough when guys have noisy crampons and other things and they are able to express who they are during the season. The line has been moved to a place where the weekend of the players is not so difficult because it does its job well. "
