In episode 5 of "Big Little Lies", Celeste Wright and Mary-Louise compete for guardianship

After being served with tutors, Celeste and Mary-Louise both asked a lawyer to fight for custody. At their first hearing with the judge, she stated that everyone involved should speak to a court-appointed psychologist and would determine if the children are at risk. When Mary Louise made a statement to the judge that she was worried about Celeste's health, she began to question her lawyer. She went to Renata Klein's home and asked if she should continue with her current lawyer or hire another one.

However, Celeste did not receive much advice because her assistant interrupted her and informed Renata that Women In Power would no longer represent her due to the bankruptcy scandal.

A few days later, Mary-Louise's lawyer offered Celeste a contract for shared custody while she sought treatment and received anger management. Celeste immediately denied the offer, while her lawyer felt that it was a good deal and that it was better than going to trial. Her lawyer informed her that when the two men face each other, her husband's death will be evoked.

Twins Wright and Ziggy Chapman Compete at School in "Big Little Lies" Episode 5

While Ziggy is at school and playing alone on the playground, a bigger child approaches and begins to taunt the boy. He described Ziggy's mistake before the Wright twins came and asked the elder to leave his brother alone. The boy then stated that the boy's father was a rapist and that the three boys beat him, which resulted in a suspension. Jane spoke to Ziggy about her actions and asked what the kid had said to provoke the fight.

At first he lied and said that he had forgotten what the boy had said, until he finally told his mother the word that the child called his Father. Ziggy also told his mother that he loved Corey, but feared that he would grow up and look like his father.

Celeste also talked about the situation to her boys, then explained to them the custody case that she is living. The twins start to be scared after realizing that they could live with Mary Louise, but Celeste has promised the boys to stay with her. His sons also promised him that they would protect her.

In episode 5 of "Big Little Lies", Celeste Wright calls a meeting at Monterey Five

Celeste texted the five women and asked them to meet in the evening on the beach. She explained the situation in which she was in detention and how her late husband, Perry, was allegedly brought to trial. As the case concerns Perry's death and the way Celeste treats her, she will have to answer questions about the sudden death of her late husband under oath. Renata supported Celeste and said they would be called to testify, to verify that Celeste was telling the truth.

When Madeline suggested they stick to their original story, Celeste reminded her that she would be giving false testimony if she was lying at the bar. Therefore, Celeste says that everyone had to put his story in order and stable for his trial. At the end of the episode, an exhausted Bonnie went to the police station and was apparently directed to the door.
