‘The Muppets’ Contains Offensive Material, Declares Disney + Disclaimer – Deadline

“This program includes negative representations and / or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now, ”states the disclaimer. “Rather than removing this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to together create a more inclusive future”, warning says.

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspiring and ambitious themes that reflect the rich diversity of human experience around the world,” the statement concluded.

The Muppets were once celebrated for their depictions of Native Americans, the Middle East, and Asia.

But there are moments that haven’t survived the change in attitude since they first aired. For example, country singer Johnny Cash is seen performing in front of a Confederate Flag in one episode. This former southern country staple is now verboten, as evidenced by singer Luke Combs’ recent apologies for its past use.
