Even the Muppets are “offensive” these days.
Anyone who streams “The Muppet Show” on Disney + will see a warning first – warning of “offensive content.”
Disney released five seasons of the iconic show to stream on Friday, allowing viewers to watch Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their celebrity guests as part of its $ 6.99 per month service.
The disclaimer displayed before each episode warns viewers that the show presents “stereotypes” and “abuse of people or cultures.”
“This program includes negative representations and / or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now, ”states the disclaimer.
“Rather than removing this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to together create a more inclusive future”, warning says.
“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspiring and ambitious themes that reflect the rich diversity of human experience around the world,” the statement added.
It is not specified precisely what Disney considers offensive in the series, but some characters represent Native Americans, the Middle East and Asia.
And in season five, legendary country singer Johnny Cash is seen performing in front of a Confederate Flag.
The warning will also appear before some iconic films, including “Aristocats”, “Dumbo”, “Peter Pan” and “Swiss Family Robinson”.
