The musical streaming contest becomes more interesting

[ad_1]

There is no shortage of players in the music streaming space and the indicators used to determine success are also quite complex, but a metric (albeit narrow) Apple Music has just overtaken Spotify, but it is too early to say for sure what that means. business. Even then, Apple Music seems to be a major player in streaming music.

Apparently, in February, Apple Music overtook Spotify for the first time as US users. Apple Music had 28 million subscribers in the United States compared to 26 million subscribers at Spotify and its growth rate was faster than that of Spotify. That sounds good, but for the whole context, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, Apple Music does not even have a free level for subscribers. 28 million of them therefore represent the entire base of US uses for Apple Music (not counting free trials). Spotify has a free / ad supported version. and considering this, Spotify has more users in the United States than Apple. The ad-supported level does not generate as much money for Spotify but adds up.

Beyond all that, we're sorry to say, but the United States is only one country in the world and Spotify has nearly twice as many paid subscribers in the world as Apple Music (between 98 million and 50 million in December). And this gap becomes significantly larger once you've included the ad-supported level, reducing Spotify's user base to more than 200 million.

Of course, music streaming is the activity of Spotify, while Apple Music is one of the services offered by the giant. No matter what paid subscriber Apple gets, it's sauce, while that's the cornerstone of Spotify. Still, it's something to watch for.
