Cheerleaders from a North Carolina high school were placed on probation after brandishing a pro-Trump banner during a football match, the Charlotte Observer reported on Monday.
A photo of teens on social media is provoking controversy and prompting the North Carolina High School Athletic Association to put North Stanly High School on probation for the rest of the season, The Observer reported.
The sports association has not set conditions for probation and the Stanly County School District said the team should continue to applaud, according to the observer.
"The Friday night football games should be focused on our students – the players, the cheerleaders, the group members – not on the politics," said a school district official in a statement obtained by the university. ; Observer. "For this reason, we hope that the situation will be resolved and that our student athletes will be able to live a beautiful autumn season."
