The new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opens in Los Angeles next week. Here is a glimpse of the interior

MIRACLE MILE, LOS ANGELES – We take a peek inside the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which officially opens to the public on September 30. Here is all we can expect from this institution dedicated to cinema.

One impressive site is the state-of-the-art 1000-seat David Geffen Theater. This is one of two theaters in the 300,000 square foot museum that will celebrate the past, present and future of cinema with daily screenings.

The Academy Museum will be the country’s largest institution dedicated to exploring the art and science of cinema and filmmaking.

“We talk about the history of cinema in a very diverse, dynamic and accessible way,” said Bill Kramer, director and president of the museum, earlier this year. “There are so many stories and we tell a lot. And we will continue to spin new stories through our exhibitions.”

This museum will not shrink from controversy either. It will address and recognize the problematic Hollywood history involving women, stereotypes and the lack of diversity.

“We recognize things that many viewers, many fans, have long thought about,” said Jacqueline Stewart, artistic and programming director of the museum. “It’s really important for us to be a space where people can talk about these issues.”

The ultimate goal of the museum is to advance the understanding, celebration and preservation of cinema. It will do so with exhibits pretty much everywhere you look, as well as plenty of special collections, programs and initiatives.

“Building a new institution from idea to realization in just over ten years is remarkable,” Kramer said.

While the Academy Museum may be in Los Angeles, a tour inside will take guests on a trip around the world with three floors of gallery space.

One of the museum’s inaugural temporary exhibitions will highlight the work of Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese animator, director and producer behind Studio Ghibli.

Visitors will be able to do more than marvel at the history of cinema. The Oscars experience will create an immersive environment that simulates the experience of accepting an Oscar on stage at the Dolby Theater.

There is a reason for the term ‘movie magic’, and it will be on display here, whether through technology or famous ruby ​​slippers.
