The "all-new Fire 7 tablet" presents a set of specifications that are not necessarily better than those of its predecessor. Of course, if you just want to use Alexa in hands-free mode with your old Fire 7 tablet, you can have it too. This came with a firmware update it was not so long ago.
The former Fire 7 Tablet is cited as having "up to 8 hours of battery life", while the new Fire 7 Tablet lasts "up to 7 hours". You also have the option to add a microSD card with a capacity of up to 512 GB, the card slot is no longer limited to 256 GB – you must however buy this card separately.
The previous Fire 7 tablet had a 2MP camera on the back, a VGA camera on the front. The term VGA stands for the equivalent of 0.3MP – absurdly tiny. Now the new Fire 7 tablet has 2MP cameras at the front and back. Neither can capture a video larger than 720p.
You are also still limited to the Amazon App Store. You do not have Google Play on this tablet. Do not forget that Amazon uses a version of Android that they call FireOS. This is not really an Android, unless you know how to hack the tablet and change the code yourself.
The display remains the same as before. It's a 7-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1024 x 600. That's 171 ppi (pixels per inch). The first iPad had a sharper screen than that one.
In for money
This is certainly one of those situations where you get what you pay for. The material provided by Amazon here is low, very light, and the least of two models compared to almost all other modern tablets of all major brands. If you want to buy this tablet only for Alexa, it's worth it.
Unless, of course, you want to get an Alexa device just for fun and you want to have fun at as low a price as possible. In this case, go in search of an Amazon Echo Dot – an old refurbished model will cost you less than $ 30 without sweating.
