Audi unveiled its latest race car, the R8 LMS GT2. This monstrous-looking R8 is the entry of Audi Sport into the new SRO GT2 racing category, which will debut in Europe and North America next year.

The R8 LMS GT2 is based on its road counterpart, featuring the same Audi Space Frame platform used on the standard R8 and many other Audi series cars. Its engine is still the same naturally aspirated 5.2 liter V-10, derived from Lamborghini Huracan, but the GT2 engine now produces 630 horsepower and is paired with a seven-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission.

Thanks to the SRO GT2 regulation, which focuses on better weight / power ratios, the R8 LMS GT2 uses Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP), which are found on almost every component of the car body, from the chassis to the new aerodynamic parts; this gives it a dry weight of 2976 pounds.
