The new challenge that Liverpool faces this season and the proof that he is ready to take it up

Andy Robertson admits that Liverpool must react to the improvement of Manchester City by saluting the mentality that kept the start of the season to 100% of the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp's team won a second Premier League win – and a club record with 11 Premier League victories – with a hard-earned 2-1 victory in Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal are the only other team to have won their first two games, although Manchester United could do the same by visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

Liverpool had to dig deep in St Mary's, where he came out less than 64 hours after defeating Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino put the visitors under control until former Reds striker Danny Ings capitalized on Adrian 's mistake to secure a nervous final of 10 minutes.

And Robertson said, "Last season was very helpful. We had a lot of great moments, especially in the back where the pressure was strong. But we were great.

"It was similar to the game we had here last year. We then fell behind, then came back and played very well at the end.

"It's about getting the three points, especially when the preparation was not as good as it could have been." Our mentality is so strong, and that's what served us well. "

Champions City was held 2 to 2 at home by Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur a few hours later, the first Premier League match that they had not won since Jan. 29.

However, Robertson recognizes that Pep Guardiola's players remain the benchmark and should set even tougher standards in the coming months.

"There was no room for error last season and I think it will be exactly the same this season," said the Scottish international.

"The teams behind us have improved a lot and the team that finished above us looks better.

"So we must be better, what we will be. We will just go there. We had a good start last season and we have to do it this season as well. "

And Robertson thinks that the fact that Liverpool is the reigning European champion could spur his opponents to change their approach this season.

"We know that the teams have organized themselves differently against us," he said. "We won a trophy, so maybe we'll have a little more respect, but it's about how you handle that, we've handled the problem well so far and we need to continue in this way.

"There will be other tests difficult to come. The team we have is well equipped to handle this, but we have to show it.

"Just like Norwich, last week it would be a basketball game. They opened up against us and we scored four goals. They had chances, yes, but we took our chances and they did not do it. It was always going to be a game like that.

"Southampton did not have a lot of chances and his goal was silly, Ingsy had a great chance eventually, but other than that, he did not have much.

"We feel like we are the same. We will improve as the season progresses, we will become more compact, it would be nice to keep clean sheets and, hopefully, to score goals. We must continue to move forward.
