The new Disney + broadcast service could be a killer of Netflix

Another streaming service is about to enter the ring, and it has big plans. We've been hearing about it for quite some time now, and Disney's action on the streaming game is about to begin.

Remember in September 2017, when Disney announced its intention to create its own video streaming service. In his eyes, all the other great players – especially the reigning streaming champion, Netflix. A year later, there was still no trace of the actual service, but a name was assigned to it: Disney Plus or Disney +, as you will often see it appear.

That brings us to this week and it took a while to get here. Since Disney announced the service for the first time, we have seen three "Star Wars" movies on the big screen and five other Marvel films (MCU), not including "Avengers: Endgame" which will be released later this month. . But, as Disney will tell you, it was worth the wait.

The star of death streaming services

Last Thursday, we finally discovered what was under the mask of Darth Vader – so to speak. Disney presented all the details of its direct consumer communications strategy during its 2019 Investor Day, and the company had a lot to discuss.

First and foremost, we now know the launch date of Disney Plus and its cost. It begins November 12 to a surprising $ 7 per month, about half the cost of Netflix's most popular plan. Not only that, but you can save even more money by paying for the service each year to $ 70 a year.

When it launches, you will have access to approximately 400 to 500 films and 7,000 episodes of television shows. They expect this number to increase rapidly, but it probably means that the price will eventually increase. Check out the prices of other streaming services here.

STREAMING VS. DOWNLOAD: WHAT IS THE BEST?

As for the platform itself, the user interface looks like Netflix and seems to share a few more traits under the hood. An algorithm will make recommendations based on what you have looked at and you can create custom watch lists. There is also the option for several user profiles, just like Netflix and Hulu.

The Disney Plus Marvel-ou range

What do you get for $ 7 a month? A wide range of options, especially if you are a fan of Disney, Star Wars and Marvel Studios.

It goes without saying that Disney's classic animated films will be available, such as "Cinderella" and "The Little Mermaid". Eighteen Pixar movies will be ready to be watched from the first day and others during the first year of service. You will also have access to about 100 original Disney Channel films.

All Star Wars movies and existing animated series will also be present. Disney Plus will also debut in the first TV show "The Mandalorian". Coming later, a series of prequel still unknown after the character of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), who appeared for the first time in the Star Wars anthology film, "Rogue One".

Then there is Marvel. Not only will you have access to great MCU movies such as Avengers and Captain Marvel, but there will also be serial shows.

There is "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", featuring the actors who play these characters in the movies, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. A series starring Hawkeye (starring Jeremy Renner) is also in preparation, with a spin-off for Thor's mischievous brother, Loki, with Tom Hiddleston.

Another Marvel show on the way is about the adventures of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, called "WandaVision". I'm not going to lie, the name of this show sounds like high-tech glasses for the cool moms of 1955.

They also provide an animated series based on the MCU with an interesting principle. It's called "What If" and looks at other possible outcomes for major MCU events. For example, what if Steve Rogers did not get the super serum to become Captain America and instead went to Peggy Carter? With the large number of films, there is a lot of material to work with.

You will also be able to capture a lot of National Geographic content and, in a surprising announcement, all 30 seasons of "The Simpsons".

Disney Plus joins an already saturated broadcast space

Disney Plus is late in the game, with other great streaming services put in place for several years. If you decide to subscribe to another streaming service, remember that costs may increase.

Will it be a Netflix killer? I do not have the stone of the time, but the strength is strong with this one. The buzz is real and it could mean a lot of subscribers right off the bat. That, and Disney has a lot of content available on Netflix, they might decide to delete. Now, they are not likely to snap their fingers and turn Netflix offers into ashes, but that will probably disappear over time.

HOW TO ENSURE YOU DO NOT GET DATA WHEN YOU CHOOSE AT HOME

In addition to what one has to look at, pricing alone is a raise of the glove at the Thanos level that should have at least raised serious eyebrows among Netflix's brass. They are already considering even more intense competition from Apple and its recently announced streaming service, which is also expected to fall this year. Maybe it was not such a good idea to raise prices early in the year.

For Disney, his goal is clear: he is ready to go out and establish his presence immediately. And he seems pretty confident that it will be a success. Because, like a great Jedi master once said, "Do it or do not do it, you can not try."
