Like every new car or update introduced last year, the new GLB comes with Mercedes' impressive MBUX infotainment system. The voice-centric interface continues to impress and gives drivers the ability to control certain aspects of the vehicle without having to go over it and use a touch screen or touchpad.
While the GLB is essentially a crossover due to its small size, it has an optional third row and can seat seven people with two additional seats. Expect that adding the rear of the SUV fits perfectly to adults and causes a considerable loss of cargo space when folded. But, if you're a parent who takes a group of kids to school, the GLB could be an alternative to larger SUVs.
Mercedes also noted the off-road prowess of the vehicle. The SUV concept that preceded the unveiling of today was clearly an off-road beast. The production vehicle is a lighter version of this design, but the GLB has the slightly aggressive appearance of a crossover ready to tackle the gravel roads.
An off-road package will be available as standard on the 4MATIC (AWD) version. The SUV will adapt its power to a helpless world and include hill start assistance and descent descent control. This feature is pretty much the cruise control to get off by keeping the car between 1 and 11 miles per hour downhill.
In addition, the MBUX system will display an off-road feature indicating vehicle orientation and angle. In addition, in off-road mode, the vehicle's LEDs will expand to show more the road and the countryside.
The GLB will be delivered with a four-cylinder engine and will be available in front-wheel and four-wheel versions. It will be available in US showrooms by the end of 2019. Pricing details have not been announced during the event.
